What exactly does petite mean?

I have always struggled with using the word 'petite' to describe myself. Feeling ashamed if someone used that word to describe me, because clearly, being overweight, I was not petite. I always thought that it meant that you were both short and thin. I haven't been at a 'normal' BMI for 20 years now, so I've always felt embarrassed to call myself petite. Turns out, I was wrong. A lot of us have been in the same situation as this Reddit user - unable to button up your pants. It's quite distressing as it seems to happen almost overnight. Sure, you can feel your jeans getting a little tighter, but it's only usually after a wash (assuming you guys are like me and don't wash your jeans after every wear) that you realise that there's too much body for too little jeans. This story, when I first read it, made my day. It's actually one of the reasons why I wanted to document these stories in one place, because collectively they show us that weight loss can work, for you, for me, for anyone. This reddit user lost 40kg and his wife lost 20kg and they look like completely different people. I love his response to the question "are you happier now".
